Hmm...to see it, or not to see it: that is the question, James. Perchance, probably not.

I am going to see the film tomorrow despite the critical reviews. Excellent overview, but I think The Godfather II was excellent.

Uhm Jim, you know, excluding God-Father Pt3 [which I admit I also enjoyed], No-One will agree w you about Godfather Pt 1 & 2. But I do agree that 'The Conversation' is an under-appreciated masterpiece.

As for 'Apocalypse Now', altho I've seen the entire film, I've never seen it from start to finish in one shot- It's just too damn long. Rather I've seen it in 3 parts, the beginning, the middle & the end. Thus I initially did not even know Harrison Ford was in the first hour of the film [BTW I saw 'The Conversation' again a couple yrs ago, & realized for the first time a young Harrison Ford was a co-star of that film].

PS: Tho Coppola was its screen-writer, not its director, 'Patton' which was certainly a good film w a solid performance by George C.Scott in the title role- which IMO makes its weakness all the more glaring, is... What / Who 'Patton' erases out of the film. As I presume you likely know re Patton's post D-Day drive into Germany, a large contingent of his army was at-least 1 or more regiment(s) / a division of Black soldiers [aka 'Patton's 'Black Panthers'], who were totally erased from 'Patton'. I've even been told by IMO a reliable source, that during that campaign Patton's own driver & personal bodyguard was a Black master-sergeant, yet the only Black person briefly shown in 'Patton' was his butler / personal cook [as you know 'Patton' was made in 1970, not the 1940s or 1950s]. I mean in 1970 they couldn't even at-least show that Patton's personal driver & bodyguard [& presumably confident too] was a Black master-sergeant? WOW!!

Yes I realize that about the Godfather films, that is why i said its like spitting into Helene. About Apocalypse Now, that is why I said i thought it bloated. My college professor said, "Francis, when are you going to get me off this river?"

I thought Ford in The Conversation as I said, was really good. And I did not know about the censorship in Patton, thanks.

PS: IMO Gene Hackman kinda-sorta reprised & updated his role in 'The Conversation', w his role in 'Enemy of the State' co-starring Will Smith.
